My Ninth grader has been attending
Faith Christian Learning Centers since Kindergarten. I really appreciate
how the students here learn by self-directed methods. This enables
children to not get frustrated, to work at their own pace, and to
get personal help with any problems they run into.
These students can't fall through
the cracks because of the way the system works by cross-checking
each page of work and by the way scoring and teacher checkups are
carried out, the students can't fall too far behind before their
problem is caught.
The program has been great, especially
with my oldest son. When he went to a kindergarten at a public school
it was a terrible experience for him; he completely lost his self-esteem.
Now my son is confident of who he is and of what he is doing. He
sets his own goals and works at his own pace. I can continue this
self-discipline at home with things like cleaning his room, using
the same methods with the chores he has at home. Setting goals,
getting them done!
Another
thing I love is that they have a homework club here, which gives
my child time to get his goals done after school so we don't have
to wrestle with this when he gets home.
The best thing of all has been the
self-esteem that my child has developed, studying in a loving, Christian
environment.
I also appreciate the family atmosphere
here. The children are really close, and some of us parents, as
well. I met my best friend through this program. It's wonderful!!
We parents are invited to do anything.
We're invited to work in the class as helpers. Through the Parents
Club we are invited to help with fundraisers. We're raising money
to buy things like computers, sports equipment, extra school supplies,
and computer video interactive systems.

I made the decision
when I put my children into this program that I would get involved
in my son's education. I come to the school on a regular basis and
help score the students' work. We also help in Christmas Programs,
participate in chapel, and serve with the Informational Luncheon.
If a parent wants to get involved there are a lot of areas. Or if
a parent just wants to drop in and check out the class, the teachers
are glad to see them.
These people have absolutely nothing
to hide.

Like all the other parents
I know from Faith Christian, one of the things I appreciate most
is the small class sizes at this school. The wonderful teacher-to-student
ratios leverage the self-paced design of the educational materials
to ensure that students don't have to play catch-up or get left
behind when they have some trouble with their studies. My kids respond
extremely well to the one-on-one attention they get whenever they
need extra help.
My children's teachers have always
been professional and caring. They regard teaching as a ministry
and not just as a job. The school teaches both academic and Bible
lessons. I really want my kids to be able to finish each quarter
having made real progress in both of those areas. I like the field
trips that the children regularly go on, as well. These kinds of
hands-on real-world experiences always seem to me to be beneficial
to my children.
My two younger children started at
FCLC in Kindergarten and from the first day their educational experiences
began to have a positive impact upon them. As a result, they both
have developed wonderful attitudes towards improving their minds.
They never learned to regard studying as distasteful; they never
came to regard schoolwork as something to be avoided. Their teachers
make learning a satisfying and fun activity!
| My children's teachers have always been professional and
caring. They regard teaching as a ministry and not just as a
job. As a result, my children never learned to regard studying
as distasteful. I would recommend Faith Christian to anybody
with school age children. My kids couldn't get the quality education
they are receiving at FCLC in any other school that I have ever
seen. |
My kids never
found out what it is like to be shamed by any inability to learn
some lesson as fast as a teacher thought they should. They never
cried or had nightmares about getting low grades.
Because the process of learning at
FCLC is all self-paced, my kids simply work at something until they
get it. Some of the subjects my children learn are easy for them;
other subjects are harder. With self-paced education, the only thing
that happens is that they can go through some materials faster than
others. It simply doesn't matter because at the end of the quarter
or the year they will have successfully learned all the material.
If they don't understand something,
my children get immediate one-on-one attention until they do understand.
Also, the learning doesn't quit when school gets out at the end
of the day. FCLC maintains excellent daily communication with parents
about student progress. Every day we can take out the status reports
sent to us and participate with our kids in their homework, if we
want to. (I can't imagine a parent NOT wanting to do this.)
We have older children who went through
the public school system. When compared with Faith Christian, the
difference is like night and day. When my older kids were in school
they had to get a passing grade in each of the classes or the learning
opportunities passed them by. They had to progress to the next thing
whether they were ready or not to progress.
My older kids weren't able to do
a lesson slower or go back and do it again without flunking a grade,
or some other terrible experience. The public school learning environment
was tremendously more stressful and inefficient for my older children
than the Faith Christian program is for my two youngest ones.
One thing I always love to see is
how positive the activities of studying at FCLC are as I see the
school's learning environment reflected in the attitudes of my youngest
children. I've never heard either of them make one negative comment
about the school or about a teacher. They always talk about how
caring and kind their teachers are.
After my kids have been on vacation
or some break from school, they are always glad to get back to their
studies. The happiness my sons experience when going back to school
is a powerful reflection of the quality of the learning experience,
in my opinion. Their joy in learning is important to us!
Faith Christian is a good school.
I would recommend it to anybody with school age children. My kids
couldn't get the quality education they are receiving at FCLC in
any other school that I have ever seen.

While he was still
a part of the public school system, I could tell that my son was
likely to fail. With 30 or more kids in a classroom, public schools
necessarily use a cookie cutter approach to education. It works
fine for children who can fit into the mold perhaps, but it tends
to leave behind or even to cast aside kids like mine, who face challenges
in accommodating to the structures that the system imposes.
| I remember that we faced a difficult decision in whether
or not to remove our child from public school and enroll him
at Faith Christian. I debated about this for three years before
I could bring myself to take the step. Now that I see my son's
progress, I wish very much that I had made the decision three
years earlier. |
The curriculum at FCLC
uses self-pacing materials, which means that a child can work on a
topic until he or she has mastered the materials. The subjects don't
get boring if you are a fast learner; they don't get frustrating if
you are a little slower.
The other great thing about the Faith
Christian Learning Center approach is the focus that the program places
on spiritual growth. The teachers and staff encourage the development
of my son's spiritual capabilities together with his intellectual
and physical development. My two older children were never given any
religious training or guidance in school. I really regret that. They
never learned to experience the impact that the growth of vigorous
faith can have upon learning and development in all the areas of life.
FCLC gives me opportunities to work
with my child more than in a public school. All parents are encouraged
to come into the school and work side-by-side with the students. I
often work with my son and with the other students right in the classroom.
The school's learner-centered curriculum means that anyone can encourage
diligence for the students, help grade the tests, and answer questions.
Also, I am able to work more directly
with my child at home. Sometimes I have to learn along with my son
in order to help him learn. The materials are great in fostering learning
for anyone who goes through them, whether parent or child. I find
myself learning things that I never learned in public school, or forgot
I learned, perhaps. When my son gets stuck I can read the materials,
learn the points, and then help my son learn them.
My child has a great attitude about
education these days. Next year he's going into High School. I gave
him the choice about whether to go back to public school or to remain
at Faith Christian. He immediately replied, "No I'm staying right
here." I asked him what he liked about the school and wasn't
surprised when he said that he likes the individual teaching and help.
I remember that we faced a difficult
decision in whether or not to remove our child from public school
and enroll him at Faith Christian. I debated about this for three
years before I could bring myself to take the step. Now that I see
my son's progress, I wish very much that I had made the decision three
years earlier.

I don't know how
bad things are in local schools, but some of the stuff apparently
going on is scary. Rick's mom told us that our kids ought to get a
faith-based education so we were ready when a fellow-worker led us
to FCLC.
| The sacrifices required to send our children to FCLC are
repaid to us many times over through knowing that our children
are learning in a safe atmosphere. Their teachers pray for our
children every day. It seems like a miracle when they come out
of Kindergarten reading from books. |
We've had kids in
both public school and FCLC environments and have seen that there
is a total difference between the two. In our opinion, the sacrifice
required to send our children to FCLC is repaid many times over through
the peace of mind that comes from having our children in the safe,
loving atmosphere that the school provides.
Public schools forbid any talk about
God, but at FCLC we know that the teachers pray for our children every
day. The school offers spiritual guidance for the children. Our little
girl walks around the house singing songs about God and faith that
she learned in school. The children are able to learn in an atmosphere
of respect and love.
So far we've sent two children to the
school, beginning them both in Kindergarten. The smaller class sizes
and student-centered educational practices seem to lead to a better
learning experience for the children. It always seems like a miracle
to see children go into Kindergarten not knowing that the squiggly
lines in a book are actually letters from the alphabet and have them
come out nine months later reading to us from books.
We're so happy we found FCLC and that
our children are attending there! |
