I
teach Spanish I, Spanish II, and anything else that's needed. I'm
also floating supervisor and am the school's computer consultant.
Teaching has always been in my blood.
Until now I've mostly focused on tutoring. Faith Christian Learning
Center has provided me the opportunity to teach in a group setting
instead of just teaching one-on-one. However, because FCLC isn't a
traditional classroom-based school and the student-teacher ratio is
so low, there are aspects here of a tutoring situation.
I like the fact that FCLC has more than one teacher
in most classrooms. While going through school myself, I was sometimes
frustrated that there was only one teacher. The teacher had so many students
to keep an eye on that the students could be lost in the shuffle.
With
more than one teacher in a classroom, discipline is more easily carried
out. And, in some cases, carried out more fairly. In Junior High I once
caught someone cheating. Nothing could be done about it because the teacher
wasn't able to confirm the incident. We were so big a double-class
that not a lot of teacher-student interactions could take place.
The teachers were unable to effectively understand all the things that
were going on in their classrooms.
Having the student-teacher ratio that we do, it is
impossible for our students to "get lost in the shuffle." We
are able to know what is going on in the classroom and through nurture
and discipline we are able to assist each student in growing and maturing.
I would like my students to develop a healthy respect
for language. I don't expect them to learn every facet of the Spanish
we are studying, but I hope to instill in them the idea that language
is worthwhile and that language acquisition can be fun. It is important
for students to understand the inter-connectedness of the English and
Spanish vocabularies. Studying Spanish is a way for students to better
understand English.

The parents of children in FCLC are investing in their
children's future. The effects of Christian education will remain with
the children throughout their lives. I'm so thankful for the Christian
Education I received myself. My training in the ways of God far surpassed
anything I could have received from a secular education. In its own way
it prepared me for life in the real world.
